Summer Solstice - Time to Celebrate the Light in You!

Happy Summer Solstice! 🔆 The Summer solstice reminds us to celebrate and nourish the light within each of us. It is a great time for reflection and to remember just how far we've come on this journey.

Only about 3 summers ago we had just expanded to our first side lot and had 21 short rows of produce and were still watering using one rainwater tank and our residential water hose and an overhead sprinkler! That year we grew and distributed over 600lbs of produce and we're feeling super proud.

Wow, look how far we've come!

Fountain Heights Farms has grown to 4 farm lots, an aquaponics learning center, an urban mushroom farm, and plans for an urban orchard and apiary! We are not only farmers, we are the best definition of “community developers” living, working, and investing in our neighborhood of Fountain Heights and working, struggling, and celebrating alongside our neighbors. Our work is focused on our neighborhood of Fountain Heights, where we live, work, and maintain community with our neighbors. We have four priority areas that are our focus for 2022 including 1) Organizing and education for land justice, 2) Urban Farming to meet immediate needs for fresh food, 3) Growing new Urban Farmers, and 4) (Re-)Connecting more BIPOC neighbors with the beauty and joy of the outdoors.

If we never would've started, if we would've listened to the naysayers, we wouldn't be here now. The Summer Solstice reminds us to turn inward and find the nourishment needed to grow and evolve. It is a time to have patience and wait for the energy planted in the Spring to reach full bloom. If the Spring represents action, the Summer represents patience. We must develop trust and confidence in ourselves that what we set in motion previously is correct even if we go through some troubled times. Our path is set at this point, we just need to nurture it and find purpose within its process.

Keep farming & keep loving farmers💚💚💚
